EIA of safe closure of four MSW landfill in Al-Ahsa

About the project

Environmental Impact Assessment of safe closure of four MSW landfill in Al-Ahsa, Eastern Province, Saudi Arabia

This study was prepared during March to August 2010 for the preparation of Landfill Closure Plan, Technical Specification and CQA Plan, and Post-Closure Plan for the four dumpsites. The SOW also includes preparation of Geology Report, Ground Water and Surface Water Protection Plan, Leachate and Gas Management Plan, Groundwater Monitoring Plan, Site Operation Plan, Final Closure Plan, Post-Closure Plan, Technical Specifications and CQA Plans for the expansion of a sanitary landfill at Al-Hofuf.

Ambient air, Groundwater and soil quality were assessed. LFG emission was determined from each gas well and modeled. Buried waste characterization was carried out. Solid Waste Management (SWM) can be defined as the systematic interaction between various activities of waste generation, storage, collection, transfer and transport, intermediate treatment and final disposal. Newer concepts such as resource recovery, volume reductions, solid wastes stabilization or sanitation have been incorporated in the SWM processes.
